Cooking with Beer: Los Bravos Braised Beer Brats

Cooking with beer is the best way to start a tailgate, because once you crack open a beer for your brats, you might as well drink one while you're manning the grill (or oven). Tailgating might look a little different this year, but that doesn't mean you can't keep up some game-day traditions. This Los Bravos braised beer brat recipe is perfect whether you're outside or prepping for the game in your kitchen!

Los Bravos Braised Beer Brats

Ingredients:

5-6 brats

1/2 white or yellow onion, sliced in the ‘root to stem’ direction

4 cloves of garlic, peeled and lightly crushed

2 tbsp unsalted butter

Pinch red pepper flakes (optional)

1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt, or 3/4 teaspoon table salt

Freshly ground black pepper

12-oz can Los Bravos

Directions:

  1. Pre-heat grill for indirect cooking (light burners on one side only for gas, or bank coals on one half of the grill for charcoal), or pre-heat an oven to 350°F.
  2. In a grill/oven save pot or foil pan, warm the butter until melted, then add the red pepper flakes, onion, garlic, salt, and a few grinds of black pepper. Heat until the onion just begins to soften.
  3. Add the Los Bravos and stir to combine. Nestle the brats into the beer bath. Cook with on the indirect side of the grill or in the oven until the brats reach an internal temperature of 165°F.
  4. Remove brats from the water bath and brown on the hot side of the grill or in a pan on the stove-top. Serve immediately.
