Project Experience

“It was an honor to be asked to do artwork for a new "Hopsecutioner" label as the original is such a classic, and it really kinda stands alone from the rest of Terrapin's labels. I didn’t want to stray too far from the original vibe and went with more of the classic axe & execution block amongst a sea of hop baskets.

The Grateful Dead with their music and imagery were a big inspiration for this project, so I worked in the skull & roses, as well as the bright Dark Star in the sky, as a nod to them. I thought going with more swirling elements and brighter colors could overall give things a bit of a different look, especially with that popping green. Also, the Hopsecutioner's crow is a nod to the original artist, Richard Biffle, who has a studio called Old Crow, which I thought would be a nice tip of the hat as I am a fan.”
